Religion and Faith

At Abbey Hill, our RE curriculum aims to develop children’s understanding of diverse beliefs, values, and traditions, encouraging respect, curiosity, and critical thinking. We want our Abbeyhillians to learn about and from religion. Our curriculum reflects our school values of Kindness, Ambition, Resilience and Pride by promoting empathy, open-mindedness, and thoughtful discussion.

Our curriculum is structured around key questions and themes across key stages, aligned with the Nottinghamshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. We have adapted elements to link with our wider topics, school context and the needs of our children.

We ensure progression and depth, supported by teacher-created resources that reflect our community and lived experiences. These were chosen to ensure inclusivity, balance, and engagement. Skills and knowledge are built over time through revisiting key concepts, exploring different world views, and reflecting personally. Pupils apply their learning through a whole range of tasks including: discussion, debate, writing, and cross-curricular links.
